Our Net‑Zero Commitment

At Plus Parts we’re deeply committed to sustainability and the transition to a low-carbon built environment. We’ve signed the SME Climate Hub pledge, joining a global network of small and medium sized businesses committed to halving emissions by 2030, achieving net-zero by 2050, and reporting annual progress.

Reaching Net Zero: How FF&E Plays Its Part

As the built environment accelerates towards a lower-carbon future, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) are gaining long-overdue attention in sustainability strategies. At Plus Parts, we believe Net Zero isn’t just a goal, it’s a process of daily, deliberate choices. That is why  we made the decision to formalise our own commitment: achieving Net Zero by 2040 through our membership of the SME Climate Hub.

Beyond the Building Fabric

While most carbon calculations focus on structure and services, FF&E can account for a significant share of embodied emissions - especially in education and healthcare projects, where loose and fixed furniture volumes are high.

That’s why we work with clients to rethink FF&E from first principles:

  • ♻️ Re-use before replace: Reviewing legacy furniture for safe, purposeful reuse
  • 🏭 Procuring locally: Reducing emissions from logistics and supporting regional economies
  • 🛠 Specifying durability: Prioritising products with long warranties and low maintenance
  • 🔁 Designing for flexibility: Encouraging modular, reconfigurable layouts that adapt over time
  • 🚮 Planning for end-of-life: Choosing suppliers with active recycling and take-back programmes

A Digital-First, Low-Impact Approach

Sustainability is also about efficiency. Our use of digital tools helps reduce both carbon and paper waste:

  • We use platforms like Layer to coordinate FF&E schedules, reduce rework, and generate digital asset data
  • We support clients in aligning their design outputs with CO₂ benchmarks and reporting tools

This approach not only saves time and money — it drives lower-carbon procurement and clearer outcomes for all project partners.

Supporting Clients and the Supply Chain

Our independence means we can offer unbiased advice, and work across supply chains to steer decisions that reduce embodied and operational carbon. We’re proud to support contractors, architects, and estate teams in delivering FF&E strategies aligned with Net Zero targets.
